Julie’s finance foundations
Julie’s career in finance began with a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University, followed by her first professional steps as a trainee Accountant in Ocean Grove. There, she developed a strong foundation in accounting and taxation before discovering her true calling in financial planning. In 2000, she made the transition and quickly found herself thriving in a role that allowed her to make a more personal impact in people’s lives.
After five years of refining her craft, Julie co-founded Core Financial Planning with her business partner Jo Newton, successfully running a boutique planning firm for over a decade. In 2016, she joined PFG Financial Services, and in 2023, brought her wealth of experience and warmth to the Coastline Advice team as a Senior Financial Adviser.

Julie’s interests
Outside of work as a financial adviser, Julie Penfold is a dedicated community leader, with extensive experience in volunteering and governance. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Julie believes that being provided with the opportunity for an education is a privilege that should not be taken for granted. She respects this deeply and actively supports school communities and engagement wherever she can as a parent representative. She has participated in leadership programs across the Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula communities, including the City of Greater Geelong Community Leadership program and the Bellarine Master Tree Growers Course, and completed the Women Leaders in Tennis course in 2023. She chairs the Geelong Down Syndrome Steering Committee and was part of her local School Council for over 10 years, including serving as President at the primary school.
Julie also coaches netball and manages local tennis teams, while actively volunteering in fundraising, event coordination, and community initiatives, promoting inclusion, engagement, and leadership development among young people.

Family sits at the center of Julie’s world. Julie and her husband are proud parents to four children, and they love spending quality time together exploring the beautiful Victorian High Country — whether that’s mountain biking, fly-fishing, or simply relaxing outdoors. Julie also loves to spend her time with photography.
